InstrumentationDesign

Turning difficult observations into trustworthy measurement systems.

StratVan develops instrumentation concepts and measurement architectures for experiments where signal integrity matters. The work connects physical interfaces to usable evidence through disciplined design.

This path continues the questions framed under Exploring VES.

Design approach

Instrumentation is part of the experiment.

Who this path is for

RF front-end groups, defense electronics labs, and university or national-lab device teams that already own probe stations and VNAs but need a defined stack, bias method, and repeatable extraction of resonator figures of merit.

What we do

  • Define the instrument architecture (device coupon, DC/RF fixture, measurement SOP).
  • Specify the thin-film stack and electrode constraints for the target mode.
  • Plan process lots and characterization sequences with shared-use cleanrooms and specialist fabricators.
  • Reduce S-parameter data to fs, fp, keff2, and Q under a documented static field.
  • Package the method so a second operator can repeat it.

How the path runs

  • Problem framing — frequency, mode (fundamental vs overtone), bias requirement, pass/fail metrics.
  • Stack and fixture definition — materials, electrodes, launch, bias isolation.
  • Lot and test plan — what gets built, what gets measured, what would count as failure.
  • Build-and-measure — partner fab / NNCI access plus in-house data reduction.
  • Transfer package — traveler, SOP, example dataset, and instrument notes.
